TEETH WHITENING

Even the most meticulous brushing and flossing habits can’t prevent natural yellowing and staining with time. Fortunately, Dr. Downie’s office provides safe and professional whitening options to restore your healthy smile and confidence.

Why should I choose professional whitening versus over-the-counter treatments?

Teeth whitening in a professional dental setting is the most safe and effective, and often most cost-efficient, way to brighten your smile.

Results can be dramatic, depending on which method is used. In-office whitening can lighten teeth three to eight shades in a single hour. More importantly, professionally supervised whitening will protect sensitive gums and tooth-root surfaces.

At your consultation, I can also determine whether or not your tooth discoloration is a result of a more serious oral or medical condition before proceeding with treatment.

If you have any questions about which whitening method would be best for you, talk to me first to fully understand your options.

Which teeth whitening methods do you offer?

At Pearl Dental Center, I specialize in ZOOM teeth whitening.

This is an easy, single-visit procedure done in our office. First, impressions of your teeth are taken and then trays are made. The gums are blocked before a bleaching agent is placed on the teeth and a light is applied in 15-minute increments, four times. The whole process takes a little more than an hour and you end up with brilliantly white teeth.

Although ZOOM is not recommended for patients with sensitive teeth, we offer a take-home option that is also based on your teeth impressions. Please do not hesitate to call our office to set up an appointment and see what is right for you.

How can I maintain my whitened teeth post-treatment?

There are many way to ensure whitening results last as long as possible, and this will vary from person to person. Of course, maintaining a conscientious routine of brushing and flossing every day and keeping up with a regular schedule of professional cleanings at our office is key. It’s best to avoid foods and beverages that are known to stain teeth—red wine, tea, and coffee are usually the biggest culprits. If you smoke, quitting is a great way to keep your teeth whiter for longer, but also for your overall health!

With a minor touch-up every so often, you can keep your smile bright and beautiful for years to come.
